He was born from a extramarital relation between Jolanda Curcio and Renato Zanpa, brother of the cinematographic director Luigi, and for this reason he takes the mother last name. He lives a difficult infancy because of the precarious jobs of the mother, and he’s sealed from the dead of the uncle Armando, worker of Fiat killed in 1945 during a reprisal of the RSI. During his adolescence he attends the catholic militancy between Milan and Alberga. On 1962 he moves to Trento in order to have the registration to the historical faculty of sociology, from where will start the 1968 students protest movement. During this period he meets his future wife, Margherita "Mara" Cagol, and on 1967, together, they found a group of study called "Negative University", beginning a job of analysis and of theoretical formation through the study and the reading of books of authors such as Che Guevara, Mao Tse Dong, Marcuse, Cabral, ignored by the university programs. In this period he takes part of the review "Political Job", where he takes position against the “Armed Struggle”. On 2nd December 1968 he’s sealed by the event of Avola, in which there were violent crashes between police and farmers who take part in a demonstration. Due to his political choice he doesn’t take his bachelor degree, although he has completed all the exams. Beginning November of 1969, in full student dispute, he participates to the famous convention of Chiavari at Maris Star hotel, that gives the bases to start the Armed Struggle in Italy, where take part also a pertaining group of the metropolitan political cllective of Milan, that, in the next year will creates the Red Brigades. In Milan, on May 1970 appears the first flyers with the five tips star. Curcio, with his wife Mara and Alberto Franceschini, is the guide of the "BR" until september 1974, the year when he’s arrested for the first time. Next year he’s able to evade thanks to a guided action organized by his wife, that dies during the summer in a fire conflict with the police. At the beginning of ' 76, Renato Curcio is arrested again, thanks to the infiltration inside of the organization of Silvano Girotto, known as the "Mitra Monk". Renato Curcio is a complex intellectual figure, marked from his "subversive" past; the permanence in jail have not change his cultural sensibility and his creative ability. Today he is the publishing director of the cooperative “Sensibile alle Foglie” (sensible to the leaves), and he has written various books on the short-term employment in Italy, such as “In dominio flessibile” (the flexible dominion), “Il consumatore lavorato” (the worked consumer) and “L’azienda totale” (the total company).
