Agostino Ferrari
Born in Milan on 1938. On 1962, he creates the Cernobio Group with his painters friends Arturo Vermi, Angelo Verga, Ettore Sordini, Ugo La Pietra, and the poet Alberto Lùcia. From now on he will be, until today, the conductor of its search, the sign. A formal change occurs on 1963 when the sign becomes a true and own writing, a polychromatic writing, dynamics until the period of the “Manifesti” (Manifests), artworks between written text and graphic. On 1964-65 he moves to New York for two artistic seasons. From 1966 to 1967 his art works include a tendency to the plasticity, a search in order to find the sign in relation with a total shape. Until 1971, he resumes the search on the sign and realizes paintings where on a transparent surface he represents the Symbol Sign, with in relief the Positive Physical Sign and carved the Negative Physical Sign. It is the Theatre of the sign. From 1972 to 1975 he tries to determine the psychological reactions of colors on him, and in particular the interrelations of colors with signs and shapes. To the paintings he realizes he gives the title of Sign Form Color. On 1972 he presents the organization of Sign Form Color inside the space 20.000.000 light-years proposed by Vermi at San Fermo Gallery, on 1974 at the Museum of Science and Technique of Milan. On 1975, this new painting stimulates him to realize an art work of huge dimensions, the Self-portrait, exhibited to Art 6/75 of Basel and therefore to Milan, in the Round of Besana. On 1978 emerges the desire to express himself with the sign, because it’s the only element having a greater adhesion to his states of mind. Therefore, he realizes the Gardens and the Memories, artworks composed by sign-signal, like "signals" with nice colors, trying to give an easy sign painting. After such experience arises the desire to “re-search again". The international exhibitions follow one another, such as New York, Brussels, Dallas, Berlin, Bonn, Frankfurt, Colony, etc. From 1979 to 1982, the sign returns to predominate his artworks, that refer to the time and to the memory. From 1983 up today his signal works are centralized on the Events, where the sign is totally free from superstructures, coming real in its totality. But the sign does not identify like writing only. It’s sign-symbol, emblem, realized with sand because it’s material of "tactile theatricality". Today he lives and works in Milan.
